As the holiday season approaches it gives us all an opportunity to thank the people we value and appreciate. I would like to thank the office staff of COPE Local 397 for all their hard work and dedication this past year. We have had many ups and downs and the staff have been there every step of the way. Thank you to the Executive Board and Prairie Council for their hard work and dedication to the Members of COPE Local 397. I would like to thank our Stewards for all their hard work on providing support and guidance to the Membership and ensuring that the collective agreement is being followed on the work floor. Thank you to the Membership for the support that you have shown for our Union.
The Executive Board and Prairie Council decided that this year with the proceeds from the 50/50 draw at our Annual Union Party we were going to adopt two families. I am happy to say that we raised $387.00. It was suggested that we also pass the hat at our December Prairie Council Meeting and we raised another $125.00. We delivered the food hamper and presents to the families and both families were extremely thankful.
Our first family a single mom with two little girls requested gifts of warm mitts and hats for the girls. We made sure that they got their mitts and hats and that they had stockings for Santa. We got them educational toys along with Paw Patrols, Barbie’s and Princesses. We also provided a large hamper of food to this family. When I brought the food in she exclaimed “is this all for us?” They were so grateful and happy to see these gifts being brought to them at this time of the year. Our second family wanted more of a simplistic visit as they did not celebrate Christmas in the modern traditional way. For this family, we did purchase one gift for each child plus a family pack of ten visits to the Family Leisure Centre, movie passes and a large hamper of food. Both of these families have fallen on hard times and COPE Local 397 helped alleviate some of their financial strain. I am so thankful for the opportunity to help them out in a small way this holiday season.
I would like to thank all the volunteers that came out to help with the 16th Annual Unions of Regina Community Dinner. Close to 1800 less fortunate citizens of Regina were served a Traditional Christmas Meal. The volunteers are nothing less than absolutely amazing. This makes me so proud to be a Union Member and to have the opportunity to assist with this wonderful yearly event. Thanks to the COPE Local 397 Members and all Sisters and Brothers of other Unions that helped make this event a huge success!
As we move into 2017, we have a challenge ahead of us. I am looking forward to working with you all in the fight to keep our Crowns owned by the people who worked so hard to build them.
I wish you all a wonderful holiday season, good health, happiness and prosperity throughout the New Year! I hope everyone enjoys the holiday season with friends and family. If you are travelling this festive season travel safe.
